2 out of 5 stars Rain Barrel Leaks   August 18, 2010
john j. walsh (San Leandro, CA, US)
The rain barrel leaked from the moment I connected the hose to the outlet at the bottom of the barrel. In addition, it is impossible to clean the inside of the barrel because the dividers at the top of the barrel are permanent and don't allow entry of hands and arms and cleaning devices. The connecting hose is very cheap. Not worth the money. Would never buy another one.

I did not understand the comments about the weak hose connection -

YES, it is pretty poor with a friction fitting and a hose clamp to hold it in place.

I used Gorilla Glue in addition - will report back on this after using it for a while.....

************ UPDATE - August 21, 2010
used Gorilla Glue and it has held together with no problem.....

I also used parachute cord to hold the drainage hose on a cup hook - the system provided is a waste.

Now, it works like a dream, and provides great service.

5 out of 5 stars Achla Model RB-01 Rain Catcher 54-US Gallon: Excellent Product   June 13, 2010

I got this rain catcher over a month now. Its a high quality product and expensive also. It looks beautiful and works perfectly. This is a newer model that allows you to connect multiple items together with the provided connecting tubing. The assembly takes just several minutes and the overflow mechanism is improved over the older models. The screen stops tree leaves and bugs so that you always catch clean water. I use it to water my vegetable garden by connecting a water hose to the spout. The only complaint that I have is that the actual capacity is probably 45 gallon rather than 54 gallon as advertised. I did not know that before I opened the package. There is a flyer comes with it stuck on the barrel indicating the actual capacity is 45 gallon (on the reverse side). Its really smaller compared with my older one which is a 54 gallon one I believe. The older one got "6000 series rain catcher" molded label on it and this one got the "4000 series rain catcher" on it. I still give it 5 stars because its not because of the product. Its something about the management rather than item quality.

5 out of 5 stars You're gonna want two of these   May 10, 2010

These are great. Arrived very quickly. Made in Canada (nice to buy something that ISN'T from China for a change). Yeah, you need to replace the clamps with metal ones, as suggested in the other reviews. N.B.D. Order two barrels - take it from me. One good rain and the first barrel is full to overflowing. Before you've had the chance to empty it, it rains again. Then the second barrel kicks in. Works like a charm. I have been hand-watering my cold frame from the barrels - haven't even taken the garden hose out yet. The next time the barrels are empty, we will raise them another few inches. Then I can hook up my garden hose to the barrels and get enough gravity pressure to water that way. Great investment and its feels good to be green. 5 out of 5 stars Awesome way to save water!   May 9, 2010

Since purchasing the rain barrels, we have yet to turn on our garden hose. It is more than enough water for our flowers, vegetables, herbs and even our newly planted trees. The hose is kind of slow but I've read on other reviews that you can attach a larger hose to the short one provided to provide quicker water flow. I just fill up one bucket then go water while another one is filling. I highly recommend this.
